The Pacific Spring or the Pacific Revolutions, alternatively known as the Rio Grande - Sunset Confederacy War, or early on as the Cascadian Civil War, was a major civil conflict on Terra Nova involving multiple nations that were formerly part of the Republic of Cascadia, a federal republic in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. The duration of the war is fairly disputed, and it was more of a combination of different wars, conflicts, and revolutions occurring in a similar region at the same time with alliances being set up. Some of these constituent wars include the Salish Revolution, the Jefferson War of Independence, and the Sunset-Rio Grande War. Many EarthMC historians from a current standpoint disagree with the title of "Civil War" due to the nations never have reunited with Cascadia and Cascadia was not a part of the conflict at all, rather it was a conflict between Rio Grande and the newly independent states.

The spring was a result of widescale perceived corruption and failure in the federal government of the Republic of Cascadia, having fallen into what was perceived as a oligarchic system plagued by nepotism. The result of the conflicts ended with Jefferson successfully becoming independent, however agreeing to a peace treaty and surrender against Rio Grande while Rio Grande let them live. However, the Salish Confederation never surrendered or made peace and eventually won their conflict upon the dissolution of Rio Grande in August 24, 2020.

Causes

The primary cause of the breakup of Cascadia into multiple factions in conflict with one another is most commonly attributed to the state of the Cascadian federal government at the end of January, 2020 and the beginning of February, 2020. Most of the breakaway factions generally agree that their original reasons for leaving were the failures within the executive administration of the Cascadian government, along with continuing foreign influence in Cascadian affairs.

  • January 26th, 2020
    • The town of Mt. Rainier, led by thegamingsquirel, secretly held funds over the course of three weeks to declare independence, creating the Pacific Republic as a rebel nation against Cascadia
  • Late January, 2020
  • 1 February, 2020
    • Estonian_Mapping is re-elected to the office of President of Cascadia, and appoints a cabinet consisting primarily of residents from her home town, Port Angeles.
  • 2 February, 2020
    • The Kingdom of Haida is re-admitted to Cascadia as it's 7th province.
  • 3-6 February, 2020
    • Newly admitted Governor of Haida, OreoToast begins large amounts of legislative changes, and becomes aware of a large scale independence movement targeted against Cascadia.
    • Public debate shifts to the state of the Cascadian government, with an obvious schism forming.
  • 6 February, 2020
    • Washington, led by BonZZil, opts to secede from Cascadia, stating that the current administration was leaning too heavily on favoritism and was failing Cascadia as a democracy. Washington becomes the first territory to secede from Cascadia. 3 hours later, the region was admitted to the Rio Grande.
  • 9 February, 2020
    • Late in the evening, leaked communications regarding the Salish movement reached the ears of the Cascadian Intelligence Service, and all users involved had their discord roles restricted and a statement is made by the Cascadian government, stating that "traitors have been identified, and will be tried"
  • 10 February, 2020
    • The Salish movement, having had their planned independence date nulled, declared independence as the Salish Confederation in the morning hours, taking several major Cascadian towns with it. The Pacific Republic is admitted to the Salish Confederation as a canton, the constituent federal unit of the Confederation.
    • Haida sides with the newly declared Salish Federation and secedes from Cascadia.
  • 13 February, 2020
    • The Salish Revolutionary Constituent Assembly adopts a Constitution, and acclaims Vorobyevite as its first federal chancellor.
    • Late in the evening, Haida opts for independence, expressing a hope for dialogue to help resolve the conflict, and offering to act as a neutral arbitrator to settle disputes.
  • 15 February, 2020
    • The first blood of the war is spilled during a harassment run by Washington against the Salish Federation, in which the player SayerQT being AFK was standing just outside of the claims of the town of Winthrop, and was killed. Later, two players (SayerQT and JTPilfered) were murdered outside the country of Paraguay in attempt of escape.
    • BonZZil, seeing a Salish citizen, cheeseballfluffy, in the Haidan town of Masset, teleported to the Haidan capital and killed the player, resulting in Haida siding with the Salish Federation in their conflict with Washington, due to a percieved "violation of sovereignty". 
  • 16 February, 2020
    • The town of Lakeview, Cascadia declares independence as an independent town. The town cited the instability of the Cascadian government as the motive for their departure.
    • Washington continues actively harassing Salish, with several attempted assassinations taking place.
  • 17 February, 2020
    • Washington continues actively harassing Salish, with several attempted assassinations taking place.
    • Lakeview sides against Washington but does not formally ally with Salish.
  • 19 February, 2020
    • With the approval of the Salish government, Haida's military begins a mining operation of the Salish/Washington border as a response to continued harassment and attacks by Washington against Salish. This action was met with criticism from the Cascadian government, who initially interpreted it as offensive action against Cascadia as several Cascadian towns nearby were griefed by Haidan/Salish forces.
  • 26 February, 2020
    • A battle began within the unfinished Salish Parliament building. Salish members stood their ground an

      fought against BonZZil, and ThiccFlatty. Against them were JTPilfered and CapntClutch7810. Washington ended the battle with three causalities, with Salish indirectly having one. This is viewed to be the first official battle between Salish and Washington members, as a victory for Salish.
  • 27 February, 2020
    • Washington, in spite of a border agreement with its adversaries in the conflict, founds a town outside of its agreed-upon borders, inflaming relations once again.
  • 28 February, 2020
    • California attempts to lead a negotiation with the Rio Grande alliance in an attempt to re-establish a formal border agreement, but were ultimately rejected.
  • 29 February, 2020
    • Washington begins an artillery bombing of the Salish capital of Wenatachee.
    • California and North California pledge support to the coalition against Washington, viewing their creation of the town of Tecate as a violation of sovereignty.
  • 1 March, 2020
    • NATO votes 3-1 to declare war on the Rio Grande alliance, entering the war.
    • JTPilfered is elected by the Salish parliament as Chancellor following the March 2023 elections, defeating Mount Rainier MP thegamingsquirel.
    • Haida installs a full set of defensive armaments along the Salish/Washington border.
    • Warning signs for civilians along roads are also installed.
  • 2 March, 2020

    • Conflict arises in Salton Sea City, California, when Washington leader BonZZil taunts and attempts to attack town members
    • At approximately 6 PM PST, NATO forces are deployed to Salton Sea City to dispel the threat, but are met with combatants from Rio Grande
    • The battle eventually moves to the outskirts of Los Angeles, garnering attention and support from a multitude of EMC players
    • The Rio Grande and NATO PvP moves to Monterey, North California; Walla Walla, Washington; and Wenatchee, Salish continuously over the next 2.5 hours until reaching a moot point where no clear victor can be declared by any means

    • California surrenders to the Rio Grande, paying 100G in war reparations
  • April 29, 2020
    • Rough and Ready and Jefferson agree to a peace treaty, jointly paying 200G in reparations. This formally ended the Jefferson War of Independence.
    • The war has continued with the Salish Confederation largely being alone in the war, continuing with major skirmishes with Rio Grande.
  • May 1, 2020
    • SayerQT's term as Salish Chancellor and the term of the 3rd Parliament are extended by one month following a 2/3 parliamentary vote initiated after meeting the necessary constitutional criteria.
  • May 4, 2020
    • The Sunset Confederacy is disestablished. This formally ended the Sunset Confederacy - Rio Grande War, with Rio Grande claiming victory.
  • June 1, 2020
    • Following the elections of the 4th Salish Parliament, xGoat_ is elected Chancellor, defeating Estonian_Mapping and Timeline_YT.
  • June 15, 2020
    • The Salish Confederation, under the leadership of Defense Minister JesTer_BBX, goes on the offensive against Washington, establishing the military base town of Hanford directly two chunks away from the northern border of the city limits of Walla Walla, the washingtonian capital. A massive battle occurs, with an initial salish victory, until the town got deleted by mods who allegedly were paid by the Rio Grande government to cover up the embarrassment.
  • July 1, 2020
    • Following the elections of the 5th Salish Parliament, JesTer_BBX is elected Chancellor, defeating Kaito_Kid, MP for Wenatchee.
  • August 1, 2020
    • JesTer_BBX's term as Salish Chancellor and the term of the 5th Parliament are extended by one month following a 2/3 parliamentary vote initiated after meeting the necessary constitutional criteria.
  • August 22, 2020
    • Washington leaves the Republic of Rio Grande.
  • August 24, 2020
    • The Republic of the Rio Grande disbanded and was formally disestablished. The Salish Confederation claimed victory in their conflict, which was later individually known as the Salish Revolution. This formally put to end the collection of conflicts known as the Cascadian Civil War, Pacific Spring, or the Pacific Revolutions, in a Pro-Independence forces victory.
