Supreme Court of the Evergreen Republic

The Supreme Court of the Evergreen Republic (SCOTER) is the highest court in the federal judiciary of the Evergreen Republic. It has ultimate and largely discretionary appellate jurisdiction over all provincial court cases that involve a point of federal law, as well as supreme original jurisdiction over all criminal, civil, and constitutional cases within the Evergreen Republic; as well as having the right of judicial review.
Established by Article Six of the Evergreen Federal Constitution, the most of the precedent for the operation of the Supreme Court came from the Supreme Court of Cascadia rather than from the High Court of Law of the Salish Confederation.
Judges serve three month renewable terms. They are elected by the Assembly after nomination by the Chancellor after consultation with their cabinet.
The Chief Justice of the Republic serves as the administrative head of the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary. The Chief Justice presides over impeachment trials in the Assembly of the Republic, and also may, in extraordinarily circumstances, act as interim President of the Republic if there due to extraordinarily there is no chancellor in office, nor a President. The Chief Justice serves a six-month term, unlike the other two associate justices.
The Court meets in the Judicial Capital of the Evergreen Republic, Olympia, in the Supreme Court Building.
The current justices of the Supreme Court are Bubba_Tea (since 14 February 2022, chief justice since March 26 2022), Beepsky (since 26 March 2022), and shattered2907 (since 7 March 2022).
