President of the Evergreen Republic

The President of the Evergreen Republic, informally called the President of Evergreen and internally called the President of the Republic (Coast Salish: S’ulxwén Tlusíp), is the head of state of the Evergreen Republic, as well as the commander-in-chief of the Evergreen Armed Forces. As the presidency is the head of the nation, the officeholder is the holder of the highest office in the Republic. The President is elected by the citizenry every two months to represent the people as the face of the republic on the world stage, and in order to defend and uphold the constitution as well as the safety, sovereignty, and security of the nation.
Under the Valentines' Day Constitution in place since the creation of the Evergreen Republic, the Evergreen Republic has a semi-presidential system of government in which the chancellor (similar to a prime minister in other democracies) is the head of government. The president has far-reaching ceremonial and foreign affairs obligations, but also the right and duty to act politically, especially within the realm of foreign affairs. They can give direction to general political and national debates. The evergreen presidents, who can be elected to an infinite number of two-month terms, have wide discretion about how they exercise their official duties.
The President of the Republic also functions as the ex officio President of the Assembly, holding the right to preside over parliamentary debates and break ties if neccessary.

Elections
The President of the Republic is elected every two months by all citizens of the Evergreen Republic, by a two-round system in which if a candidate does not receive a majority of votes in the initial vote, the top two candidates in the first vote move on to a second round a day later. There is no term limit, and to run you must be a citizen of the Republic for at least two months prior to taking office. The most recent election was the May 2022 presidential election. The next election will be held in July 2022.
