The August 2022 Cascadia general election was the first monthly general election in Cascadia to elect the Governor of Cascadia and all twelve seats in the House of Representatives for one-month terms, as well as electing the Chief Judge of Cascadia for a two-month term. These were the first elections to be held in Cascadia. It was held from August 16 to August 17, 2022, under the new constitution ratified that same year. SayerQT and EstiQT were elected as the 1st Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Cascadia. This was the first of three elections in Cascadia to not be held on the third Sunday of a month, prior to the ratification of the 2nd amendment to the first Constitution of Cascadia, and one of two elections where the Chief Judge was directly elected, prior to the ratification of 4th amendment to the Provisional Constitution.

Electoral system

Governor

The Governor of Cascadia was elected by First-past-the-post (FPTP) voting due to only two candidates being on the ballot. In this system, voters cast a single vote for a single candidate, and whichever candidate gets the most votes after the voting period has ended, they are elected governor. The voting period lasts for roughly twenty four hours. Voters may mark only one candidate.

House of Representatives

Members of the House of Representatives were elected by score voting from 4 constituencies with three seats. In this system, voters give each candidate a score, the scores are added (or averaged), and the candidate with the highest total is elected. The voting period lasts for roughly twenty four hours.

Electoral boundaries

Interim Governor SayerQT issued the Decree of Electoral Law, in which the borders of districts in the House of Representatives as well as seat magnitude were issued for the following election.

Chief Judge

The Chief Judge of Cascadia was elected by First-past-the-post (FPTP) voting due to four candidates being on the ballot. In this system, voters cast a single vote for a single candidate, and whichever candidate gets the most votes after the voting period has ended, they are elected chief judge. The voting period lasts for roughly twenty four hours. Voters may mark only one candidate.

Campaign

Applications were opened on August 13. ToasterBurnt was the first to announce their candidacy. ImLitten of Helena also announced their candidacy, but their application was invalid since they did not choose their Executive Council. SayerQT announced her candidacy, stating that she would prioritize increasing activity and towns as much as possible, while also starting the creation of a strong cascadian government system that can provide for the towns, citizens, and mayors alike". ViolentVampire was the last to announce his candidacy. This candidacy however was seen as mostly as a shitpost, as it only consisted a part of Palpatine's Declaration of a New Order, as well as his Executive Council picks being only himself. In the end, SayerQT and ToasterBurnt were the only valid candidates for this election.
