General elections will be held on March 16, 2025 in Cascadia to elect the President, Public Advocate, and all 15 seats in the 32nd House of Representatives, alongside retention referendums for the Supreme Court.

President Farosh_, who was first elected at the January 2025 presidential election, and re-elected in February 2025, has announced his intent to not seek a third term. Four candidates have announced their campaigns for President, including sitting Vice President HawaiianDPG, former vice presidents Capitanfra and Xeocas, and former President Setrus.

A presidential debate will be held on March 13.

Electoral system

President & Public Advocate

The President of Cascadia is elected by Instant Runoff Voting when there are more than two candidates being on the ballot. In this system, voters complete a closed ballot on google forms, numbering candidates 1, 2, 3, etc. in order of their preference. The voting period lasts for roughly twenty four hours, however this may be a tiny bit more. Voters may mark as many or as few preferences as they wish. Each ballot is initially credited to its first-preference candidate but may be transferred on later counts to the next available preference where the first preference candidate is elected or eliminated.

This system is also used in elections for Public Advocate. Voters must verify their vote in an #i-voted channel to ensure election security.

House of Representatives

Members of the House of Representatives are elected by single transferable vote (STV) from 4 constituencies with between two and six seats, apportioned to districts based on voter turnout via the Adams method.

Campaign

Background

The February 2025 general election saw President Farosh re-elected to a second term with HawaiianDPG as his running mate. The ticket received 73.3% of the vote. HawaiianDPG, who previously served as Secretary of State in Farosh's first cabinet, replaced Xeocas on the ticket due to Xeocas's intention to move to Havaiki, an ally of Cascadia within the Organization of Free Nations.

One of the most significant events leading up to the election was the “USA Affair,” involving Shadowcipher, a former Cascadian Speaker of the House. Shadowcipher was accused of treason by many critics for transferring the “USA Trade Possession,” a valuable government asset, to Mexico, an allied nation within the Organization of Free Nations (OFN). This act ignited a political firestorm, raising questions about national security and foreign influence. Shadowcipher had since moved to Havaiki, further complicating the situation. While in Havaiki, Shadowcipher received support from Capitanfra, who attempted to mount a legal challenge. While the suit was dismissed on grounds of standing, the issue led to the House passing the Foreign Interference Act upon the initiative of Attorney General Akeboun, making the act of foreign citizens practicing law in Cascadia illegal.

During this term, the Northern region of Cascadia saw increasing encroachment by Alaska, leading to many Cascadians to see "protection of the Great North" as a key political issue.

The term was also shadowed by the continuation of the OFN-Entente War, in which Cascadia was at war with Australia, Illinois, and California, known as the Entente. Following the election of Texan King Bill "Rocky" Moor as President of Vermont on March 1st, Vermont began the process of incorporating Texas into their federation, contributing to a solidification of Vermont hegemony over the Eastern United States, altering the balance of power within the Organization of Free Nations.

In early March, Vermont withdrew from the war with Australia and Illinois, leavign Cascadia and Pilbara the only two OFN members actively engage in conflict with the whole Entente. This situation put considerable pressure on Cascadia, requiring strategic recalibrations and increased defense efforts.

Incumbent President Farosh made his intention clear early on that he would not seek a third term, leaving the presidential field open. Prior to the campaign’s commencement, Vice President Hawaiian was widely regarded as Farosh’s de facto successor and the frontrunner in the race. His consistent presence in the administration and alignment with Farosh’s policies positioned him as the candidate of continuity and stability.

The writ of election was announced by Chief Justice SayerQT on March 7, 2025, opening registration and the campaign period.

Immigration

The election is taking place against a backdrop of complex international relations, particularly with the ally of Havaiki. A significant Havaikian-Cascadian community, known as the Arcadian community, has influenced the political landscape, with several candidates, such as Capitanfra, Xeocas, and vice presidential candidate ShadowCipher having ties to both nations.

Baltic immigration has emerged as a significant factor in Cascadian politics during the March 2025 general election campaign. The arrival of Baltic immigrants, such as GuyWithALife (GWAL) and MMMeslina, has introduced new perspectives and dynamics into the nation’s governance and social fabric. Both individuals have been integrated into Capitanfra’s proposed cabinet, with GWAL nominated for Vice President and MMMeslina for Secretary of State, with GWAL also being included in the proposed cabinets of HawaiianDPG and Xeocas. MMMeslina is also running for Public Advocate, and has largely been seen as the frontrunner.

Timeline

HawaiianDPG, the incumbent Vice President, was the first candidate to register for the election, announcing his campaign at 10:55 am on March 7th. His running mate was House Speaker SergioTheCrafter. He is running on a platform focused on infrastructure development and economic growth. His "Project Cascadia" plan includes expanding the recently-established CasCARE national player insurance system, revamping the national shop and improving its supply chain, strengthening regional alliances and diplomatic relations, and defending Cascadian sovereignty in Northern Cascadia. He has emphasized his place in the race as a sovereigntist and nationalist candidate.

Capitanfra, a former Vice President and Secretary of State, was the second to register at 11:12 am that same day, announcing a comprehensive cabinet and policy platform. His campaign announced focused on improving recruitment and growth strategies, expanding Cascadia's territory eastward, investing in infrastructure, particularly iceway development, and increasing government-organized events for citizens. His initial running mate was former President 4whatok, however he was later replaced by GuyWithALife after Whatok's rejection of the role.

Xeocas, who recently served as Deputy Prime Minister of Havaiki and had just returned back to Cascadia just days prior, registered for the presidential election on March 8th. He presented a plan focusing on enhancing community engagement, improving the recruitment pipeline for new citizens, developing infrastructure projects, and strengthening home affairs and defense capabilities.

Former President Setrus has consistently floated the possibility of running for President in the March election, and publicly expressed interest throughout the early parts of the campaign. On March 10th, he announced to nation chat on the server that he was likely to run for President, and in the days prior he had been communicating with potential cabinet nominees. He formally entered the race in the morning of March 11, and announced Secretary of the Interior Moxicodone as his running mate. His campaign announcement and platform outlined a platform centered on government efficiency, activity, recruitment, and economic development.

Setrus’s recruitment strategy targets significant population growth, aiming for 70 new residents per week and a total of approximately 536 residents by April 20th, 2025. Economically, he proposes enhancing the nation’s shop system through new farm constructions and infrastructure modernization. His foreign policy approach prioritizes internal growth over adversarial engagements, similar to the sovereigntist policy of HawaiianDPG. Setrus has also announced a comprehensive cabinet lineup, including notable figures such as GuyWithALife and Akeboun. His campaign emphasizes practical solutions and rapid policy implementation, positioning him as a candidate focused on addressing long-standing issues.

As the election approaches, issues such as national security, economic development, and Cascadia's role on the global stage continue to dominate the political discourse, especially in relation to the Organization of Free Nations and the ongoing OFN-Entente War.

Differences and Controversies

The 2025 Cascadian Presidential Election has been marked by notable conflicts and differences among the three main candidates—Vice President Hawaiian, former Vice President Capitanfra, and Xeocas. These disputes have centered on policy priorities, legislative records, and personal controversies, creating a highly competitive and contentious campaign atmosphere.

Hawaiian’s platform focuses on infrastructure development and strengthening Cascadia’s sovereignty, contrasting with Capitanfra’s emphasis on recruitment programs, territorial expansion, further integration with other North American States and global communities, and weekly events. Hawaiian has emphasized his continuous service to Cascadia as a key differentiator from Capitanfra, who has faced criticism for his recent tenure outside the nation and his involvement in a legal controversy. Capitanfra supported the legal challenge of Shadowcipher, a former Speaker accused of treason by critics for illegally selling the government asset of the USA Trade Possession to Mexico. This controversy has raised questions about Capitanfra’s judgment and loyalty to Cascadia, specifically by Attorney General Akeboun, who endorsed Hawaiian on March 10th following an argument with Capitanfra over Capitanfra's involvement in the USA Affair.

Xeocas has criticized Hawaiian’s legislative record, initially claiming that Hawaiian had only passed one bill during his tenure. This claim was swiftly refuted by Hawaiian and other officials, who pointed to numerous bills and resolutions passed under his leadership. Hawaiian has also highlighted his commitment to Cascadia, contrasting it with Xeocas’s recent service in Havaiki, which some view as a lack of dedication to the nation. Xeocas’s platform emphasizes community engagement, infrastructure projects, and foreign policy initiatives aimed at fostering peace and collaboration.

Both Capitanfra and Xeocas have faced scrutiny for their time spent outside Cascadia. Capitanfra admitted to voting in a Cascadian election while residing in California—a revelation that sparked debates about election integrity, especially on the part of Attorney General Akeboun, who opened an investigation by the Department of Justice on March 9th. Xeocas has sought to distinguish himself by highlighting his legislative accomplishments across multiple nations, including Vermont, Pilbara, and Havaiki.
