Great American War

The Great American War, also known as the Great North American War, or as the Texas War in Cascadia, was a large intercontinental conflict on Terra Aurora between the Republic of Cascadia and its OFN allies, and the Kingdom of Texas. It is considered a significant part of North America's history.
Background
Cascadia-Texas Tensions
In November 2023, a player named Hersheylr arrived in Texas, having previously spending time in Cascadia and contributing to the end of the RMF Wars. While in Texas, Hershey obtained perms to the Texan capital of Houston and Texas at large. He severely damaged the Texan capitol and kicked towns from Texas, which was a considerable loss in materials and power for the nation. On December 18, 2023, Texas declared war on Cascadia, claiming that Cascadia was involved in planning and backing the attack. A Discord announcement by the Texan King, North_Paso, would become infamous due to the way it compared several notable Cascadians to the Christian seven deadly sins. This would mark Texas' entry into the Wagner War, with Texas and other Cascadian enemies, notably Chad (aka Osoyoos), planning on using the server's then-new overclaim functionality to take chunks from Cascadian towns and force them to submit to the rule of the Reformed Republic of Cascadia. Ultimately, the war became inactive after Wagner was able to only take one chunk of Cascadian territory from the town of Chaeronea, and ended de facto in March 2024 after the San Francisco Offensive of 2024. Notably no official peace treaty was ever signed and the Wagner War is considered by some the start of the later and larger conflict, the Great American War.
During the spring of 2024, the Cascadian government typically treated Texas with reserved resentment, and generally nothing more than a distant threat. Due to Texas being the closest remaining Wagner-aligned nation to Cascadia, it was still treated with particular concern by the Cascadian Department of Defense, and the newly formed National Security Agency. On May 23, 2024, the NSA received an offer from former Cascadian and Michoacán leader CMW to have him spy on Texas in exchange for Cascadian support of a revived Michoacán/Mexico. At the time, Texas controlled a significant area of Northern Texas and the Yucatan. The NSA accepted the offer, and CMW would provide intelligence from the Texan legislature and cabinet until his Cascadia-backed secession on June 16.
On May 28, Cascadian officials were alerted to the beginnings of a chain of Texan towns moving in the direction of California. At the same time, prominent mayors in California alerted defense officials that Ewhy, who now owned the town of Sacramento in Northern California, was attempting to get them to secede with him and join Texas. It was at that point that the Cascadian Department of Defense began to put together war plans in preparation for a Texan invasion. The possibility of Texas using towns meticulously placed within and nearby Cascadian territory to launch another attempt at a mass overclaiming campaign was the primary concern of Cascadian defense officials. North_Paso was banned by 32Andrew on May 29th, 2024 for using forged evidence in a ticket, however he was quickly unbanned.
OFN Crises
In the Organization of Free Nations, a couple of crises were ongoing amongst the member states. In Cascadia, officials were attempting to negotiate an non-aggression pact and border treaty with the North Sea Republic (NSR), who controlled San Francisco. Tensions between the NSR and Cascadia had been high since San Francisco joined the NSR after the Wagner War, to the point that the rivalry between the two has been labelled the Cascadia-NSR Cold War. Although Cascadian and NSR officials had been somewhat opposed to negotiations for some time, in late May 2024, Vermont began to mediate negotiations in an attempt to end the tensions between their two allies. A non-aggression pact was quickly agreed to, though negotiations nearly fell apart as the two sides debated a border agreement. The NSR, pushed by NFISH, desired an agreement where the NSR would be allowed to claim almost any territory in North America outside the Cascadian Metro. Cascadia, in response, pushed for an agreement where the NSR would only be tolerated to claim territory in California and Nevada. During this debate, Cascadian President Raptormm4 would remark that the NSR (whose capital was on the island of Ireland) was a government "From fucking Ireland." This became known as the "Fucking Ireland" incident. Negotiations between the two continued for over a month, held together by both sides wishing to please Vermont and not be the first side to break off negotiations. The negotiations would not end until the Treaty of Los Angeles, with NSR settlement limited to the areas south of Nevada's northern border. The final agreement was agreed to by Cascadian officials in order to focus dealing with the increasing threat of Texas.
In Havaiki, the Zealandia Civil War was brewing. The war began on May 29, 2024, when a mayor named Bacon seceded from Havaiki after Havaiki after the inkthink controversy, and the strong Zealandian desire for independence. Bacon who was mayor of the north New Zealand town of Port Jason, and a small number of other mayors, declared independence as the nation of Zealandia, and came into open conflict with Havaiki. While Havaiki received strong support from most of its OFN allies, especially Cascadia and Pilbara, Vermont attempted to blame Havaiki for the conflict. Princeling, who at this time was still a major figure in Vermont, would refuse to condemn Zealandia, and would ultimately be one of many voices calling for peace in the region. The war ultimately came to an end with a recognition of Zealandian independence and a ceasefire line on June 15.
In the Caucasian Republic, the OFN came into a crises between one of their member states and the nation of Turkey. The Caucasian Republic joined the OFN on May 11, 2024, having transitioned into a democratic republic in April. However, in late May, the Caucasian Republic's leadership came into a disagreement over their borders with neighboring Turkey. On June 4, Turkey overclaimed the Caucasian Republic's capital of Don Host. The Caucasian Republic's leader and founder, PastaMaster, resigned five days later due to the crisis. In the process, he declared Don Host surrendered to Turkey.
Internal Texan Crises
During June 2024, Texas entered into a series of internal crises. This began on May 29, when Paso was banned for conspiring to fake evidence in a ticket that led to the banning of former Cascadian EstiQT. Paso attempted to calm worried citizens in the aftermath of his ban, saying that "I want to reassure people that despite this, I will be unbanned. This is nothing to worry about. If worse comes to worse, LivingHumanBeing will take over." 8 days later, on June 6, the Texan President, Saddam, resigned in the wake of Paso's ban. Following Saddam's resignation, a power struggle arose in the Texan senate, with Texan Senator Luke declaring that as Saddam's "#2" he should immediately become president. At the same time, Bon Kranch began pushing for the abolition of the presidential system and for him to become dictator under Paso. In an attempt to gain legitimacy and popular support, CMW, alongside Texas Senator Sometexan, proposed that an immediate nationwide election be held to choose a new President. All 3 of these factions put respective votes before the Texas Senate, with the choice of an election winning with near-unilateral support. Elections would begin later that night, with notable candidates including Sometexan and Bill 'Rocky' Moor, who choose CMW as his Vice President. Rocky was declared the winner on June 9, the same day that North_Paso (and EstiQT) would be unbanned from EMC. Out of fear of leaks to anti-government factions, the Texan cabinet was kept particularly secure, with only 5 members initially having access to it: Bon Kranch, CMW, Rocky, K S, and Sometexan.
On June 8, a number of West Texas towns, upset by Paso's reign as king and seeing his ban as an opportunity for revolution, seceded to form the Texan Union. The revolutionary nation was based in the large town of Dallas, and took around 3 other towns with it. The revolutionaries demanded that Texas become a democratic republic and do away with the monarchy in the process. Before they officially seceded, the revolution's leaders, Morflux and Violent_Vision, attempted to reach out to the OFN for support. While some OFN members attempted to support the Texan Union, usually through strategic advice, OFN and Cascadian support for the rebellion quickly dwindled as its leaders would discuss their war plans in local chat, quickly leaking it to Texan reconnaissance. Due to the scale of the infighting in the Texas, Cascadian intelligence would remain interested for some time in the prospect of fermenting a larger revolt against Paso, proposing tactics such as spreading propaganda books about Paso's past to Texan mayors and sending propaganda DMs to Texans on Discord. Ultimately, none of these plans would be put into action. The Dallas Uprising would continue until Morflux's resignation in late June, with the Texan Union's second President, Violent_Vision, surrendering to Texas on June 21.
Prelude to war
Events in Mexico
Beginning in 2023 with the slow decline of the First Mexican Empire, Texas had gradually increased its own influence over Mexico. This was especially evident in northeast Texas, near the Rio Grande, and in the Yucatan. In an attempt to avoid a conflict, the NAU/Mexico agreed that these areas could be under Texan sovereignty, though they were prepared to oppose Texas if they ever decided to threaten the few remaining major towns, notably Hermosillo. It is generally agreed that Paso's goal in the settlement of Mexico was to conquer most of the country in order to form an empire similar to that of Nova's Rio Grande Empire. Paso was, however, hesitant to move too quickly in Mexico, fearing retaliation from the veteran leadership of the NAU. In late May 2024, Paso began to encourage industrial specialization and development in the several districts of Texas, including an upgraded casino at the Texan capitol and new farms in the rapidly developing Yucatan.
By June 9, 2024, CMW had begun to work towards reviving Michoacán in southwestern Mexico, while remaining in Texas. This would briefly cause some tensions with Saph and the remnants of the Mexican Empire, as Michoacán was outside the area Texas had officially claimed up to that point. In order to avoid a conflict, Paso ordered CMW to join Mexico while remaining in the Texas government, since he believed that "Saph only cares about the color on a map." This decision was also apparently made to avoid more problems on top of the internal crises that Texas was facing at the time. Paso's plan was to have CMW secretly recruit Mexican towns while in Mexico to eventually rejoin Texas as the State of Michoacán. While CMW would begin speaking to other Mexican mayors, Paso was not aware that it was to bring them into a stronger, independent Mexican nation, not Texas. Unfortunately for Cascadian intelligence, this plan would greatly speed up the time they had with CMW in Texas, as CMW would now need to declare independence as a set time rather than waiting for Texas to collapse in on itself.
Around June 11, Texas was struggling from even more internal struggles and further difficulties in Mexico. Saph had forced Texas to kick 2 towns in Baja, and the continued game of cat and mouse between Texas and Mexico kept the foreign affairs of the Texan government quite occupied. It should be noted that the events from June 10-14 took place while EMC was down for maintenance. Internally, Texas was also facing yet more division. On June 11, CMW described the situation to Cascadian intelligence with 5 different factions: The Michoacán, led by CMW and Thinkfast in Mexico, the lower senate, consisting of non-government senators growing gradually more opposed to the Rocky Administration, the Rocky Administration, which was backed by Paso, the Rocky opposition, led by Sometexan and possibly backed by LivingHumanBeing, and the Dallas Rebels, who were in the process of being destroyed. By this time, CMW had been replaced as Vice President due to his attempts to side with Sometexan's opposition faction. On June 12, Rocky passed the Diplomatic Regulations Bill, which made it illegal to conduct negotiations without government permission or to discuss Texas foreign policy with foreigners. This was in response to Saph getting a hold of a Texan claim map which violated Mexican sovereignty, though to this date it remains unknown who provided it to her. During this incident, Sometexan was interrogated as a possible suspect, in the process revealing the opposition and its membership, effectively destroying it. This led almost immediately to secession amongst the various opposition members, with Sometexan fleeing to Nebraska where he would shortly thereafter become a Texas state.
On June 15, Michoacán declared independence from Texas, declaring itself completely free of Texan rule and criticizing the policies of both Paso and the Rocky Administration. The secession was backed by Cascadian funding that had been secretly transferred to Michoacán earlier that day. On June 18, Paso proposed a new claim map in Mexico, which had almost all of Mexico within Texas territory. This map was completely rebuked by Mexican officials, though by that point there was little they could do. Critically, the map included the territory of Michoacán as Texan.
Communist Oklahoma
On June 7, 2024, Moxiecodone began receiving DMs from Ewhy_ recruiting her to join Texas. Not having any interest in joining Texas, Moxie and Cascadian Vice President Setrus decided to perform a non-government sanctioned private psychological operation (psyop) on Texan leadership. Moxie told Ewhy that her and Setrus were getting tired of Cascadia and were considering leaving, prompting North_Paso to start DMing Setrus. The two decided to tell North_Paso that they were interested in leaving Cascadia, saying that Cascadia "Wasn't gay enough". Setrus and Moxie would then begin to rant about their plans, including the foundation of a gay and socialist nation closer to Texas. This rant eventually led to the pair presenting a map of where they wanted to settle, choosing to settle in a location marked in Oklahoma. Setrus also said he'd be getting upwards of 70 active players from a 580 member discord server he owned, providing the link to said real server to Texas, who by now had talked about the group within their upper government. Texas, seeing that the server was in fact real with some server members playing into the bit, immediately became quite concerned by this possibility.
Thus, Texas officials attempted to organize a voice call to discuss the rebellion and how they could work alongside Texas. Instead, Setrus and Moxie ghosted them until June 9, when they said that they decided for sure to form a nation in Oklahoma, wishing Texas good luck. On June 11, Setrus put together a fake constitution for the fake nation named the Queer Cummunocracy of Oklahoma. Eventually, concerned about the concept of a large, gay, socialist nation popping up on their northern border, Texas began to push for the group to join the Texas meganation and settle further northwest, in Colorado. On June 11, a VC was held between Setrus, his non-EMC friend posed as a co-founder, and Texan President Bill 'Rocky' Moor, with Rocky informing the duo that "If you settle somewhere else, or you are not under Texas, we will have a problem. And I have no reservations about going to war after the fact, if you decide to violate this agreement. Now under the Texas government you would be able to have an N-spawn, but every other town must be under Texas...." After Setrus agreed to speak to his people on Rocky's proposal of settling further northwest, Rocky gave the now-infamous response, "Good, and if it don't work with your people I do not give a shit. If it's a democracy, whip the Goddamn votes. Call a vote, call another one, and call another one, until it passes. And if it don't pass, don't come to me with that as an excuse." On June 18, another VC was held, with Setrus trying to gain more information on what was happening in Texas before they would supposedly join. After this call, Paso broke off the negotiations, saying "We're done here." Cascadian intelligence would find that the psyop was treated completely seriously by the Texan government, and was one of the many crises (alongside the events in Mexico and internal divisions in Texas) that kept Texas from going forth with their invasion plans during early June. The psyop would continue to be used to spread paranoia in Texas until it finally began to wither out in early July.
Invasion of California
By June 2024, Ewhy was the owner of the town of Sacramento, holding the California nation name. The town and nation had long been a problem in northern California for Jefferson and Cascadia. On June 7, 2024, Ewhy began trying to poach both Jeffersonian and Cascadian mayors in California, including Moxie, telling her: "Moxie why don't you guys just join Texas? If you don't like Cascadia government. Texas is good." These early attempts at poaching were not successful, but did make it clear to Cascadian officials the intention of Texas to begin making their way into California, especially with a line of Texas towns quickly expanding west. On June 18, Sacramento officially joined the Texas nation, marking the first time that Texas had undisputedly invaded Cascadian territory. Almost immediately following this, the Cascadian government began to make final preparations for war to begin, and issued warnings to the OFN that the security situation in California was rapidly devolving, and for other OFN members to make preparations. Havaiki, Cascadia's closest ally at this point in time, was specifically informed that a war with Texas was imminent, and to take proper preparations.
On June 22, Raptor ordered Secretary of State Milgorn123 to issue to Texas a diplomatic complaint regarding their actions in California and demand a conversation with them. This would be the last attempt at a peaceful resolution to the conflict. On June 23, Milgorn issued the complaint, and shortly thereafter a GC was created for negotiations between Raptor, Milgorn, North_Paso, and President Rocky. Cascadian officials directly informed Rocky of the attempts at poaching Cascadian mayors and the direct violations of the Cascadian claim map. The demand was made that Texas respect Cascadia's territorial sovereignty. The ultimatum was given a deadline of 9:00 AM PT (11:00 AM CT). The next morning, at 9:24 AM PT, Rocky refused to "cede Texan towns against the will of said towns without just compensation." Raptor would request an authorization of military force against Texas from the House of Representatives 6 minutes later. The resolution passed at 8:07 PM PT, June 24, 2024, officially marking the beginning of the war. Before news reached of the Cascadian declaration, Texas unilaterally declared war on Cascadia on their own accord, at 9:16 PM PT (11:16 PM CT). Technically, Texas never considered themselves at peace with Cascadia after the de facto end of the Wagner War, but made an announcement nonetheless. The OFN was informed shortly after the AUMF was issued that Cascadia had activated Article 5 of the OFN Charter, declaring that they were being invaded by Texas and activating the mutual defense clause of the OFN. Havaiki, Vermont, Pilbara, and Laurentia would thus declare war on Texas shortly thereafter. Vermont, notably, declared war through an executive order issued by President SergioTheCrafter, as there was no set war powers in their constitution at the time. Rocky would raise the argument in his war speech that they had been contacted by towns in California seeking to escape the "tyranny and injustice that lays within Cascadian Walls" and join a "True Republic." Texas would continue to maintain that Cascadia were the aggressors in the conflict until the end of the war.
Course of the war
The Cascadian plan at the outset of the Great American War was to invade Texas from all possible fronts until eventually winning an outright victory, forcing Texas to withdraw from the lands west of the Rockies. On a large scale, Cascadian planners intended to use Cascadia's many allies to surround Texas. From the west, Cascadia would hold their ground in California and move towards Texas. In the east, Vermont would be amongst the first to arrive in Texas proper. In the south, Mexico would begin to combat Texan claims in south of the Rio Grande and hunt Texans outside claims. And in the north, Cascadian Intelligence intended to use a propaganda campaign to revive a pro-democracy rebellion in Texas who could apply more pressure on Paso. At the onset of the war, Cascadian officials also attempted to convince the NAU to enter the war against Texas, citing that Texas would likely come for them next. The NAU declined. While Cascadia had set in motion many of these initial war plans, it declined to inform the OFN of them, making the assumption that such actions would have either been common sense or would come into being shortly.
The first war plan attempted by Cascadian was Operation John Brown, a plan to overclaim a significant portion of Sacramento. This plan was originally going to be put into place on June 24, but was delayed as Raptor and Cascadian diplomats awaited the passing of the AUMF. Once the AUMF was passed, the operation faced further delays as no one was able to withdraw gold and get it to an online holder to undergo the overclaiming. Ultimately, the operation would be cancelled the next day, after Sacramento realized their weakness and enabled overclaim shield. The second plan worked out by Cascadian leadership came to be known as Operation Alamo, and focused on the invasion of Texas proper. The plan, put into place on June 26, was to place 3 towns in the core of Texas' territory: San_Antonio, in Central Texas, USS_Lexington, off the coast of Houston, and an unnamed town in northeast Texas. The goal was to use these towns as an outpost to hunt Texans, impress Cascadia's ability to wage war upon Texans, and to eventually overclaim underpopulated Texan towns, notably Port Lavaca and eventually Houston. Ultimately, Operation Alamo would also be cancelled as Cascadia lacked the holders at the time to properly organize the plan. Milgorn, a Texas native who volunteered to provide a holder for USS_Lexington, would be asked about the issue until mid-July, when the plan was effectively abandoned.
The Texas Western Offensive
At the onset of the war Texas would launch two major offensives, both focuses on poaching and overclaiming enemy towns. In the west, this effort was focused on Cascadia, especially in California and the Cascadian Metro. On all fronts, most of these efforts were commanded by Samisol, the mayor of Rio Grande. Samisol was noted for his ability to sway and control others, especially younger and more easily convinced players. He was also noted on the Eastern Front for his PvP abilities and using them to extort mayors into joining Texas. Across the Western Front, Texas saw very little success poaching Cascadian towns, with Cascadian mayors long adjusted and prepared for the threats of poachers. In California, Texas instead succeeded in poaching towns which were already hostile to Cascadia. Sometime after July 17, 2024, the Norcallian towns of Silicon Valley, San Diego, and California (town) joined Texas. Eventually, a break-up in the friend group of Ghostyuu and Bonzzil would lead to the towns formerly beloning to the New California Republic in Nevada would also join Texas at Bonzzil's suggestion. On July 18, the town of South Lost Coast was poached by Samisol, who then used it to overclaim and hold at ransom the historic district of Lost Coast proper. In an attempt to get back his items and historic buildings, Rocksthunder and many other Jeffcadians would join Texas.
Further north, Samisol raised town holders to place claimblock towns across the Cascadian Metro. This included OBLOCKFENTGANG, which claimblocked Oceanside (now Astoria) on June 25. The former RMF towns of Catalina, Bakhmut, I_WANT_GOLD, and Astoria (Bon_Kraunch) also joined Texas shortly thereafter. Texas' Western Offensive reached its furthest point on June 30, when Mackenzie_CFOB was founded just north of Corgo's Pass. The towns of SodaGang and TK_ville would also be founded near the northern border of Vancouver on July 13 and 15.
Although the Western Offensive was successful in penetrating the Cascadian homeland, it ultimately failed to significantly dent Cascadia's morale or ability to respond. The most significant incidents from the Western Offensive were the successful claimblockings of Oceanside (which continues to the present), Corgo's Pass, and Vancouver. In Corgo's Pass, a large lesbian pride flag was built to overshadow Mackenzie_CFOB. The Western Front during this phase of the war also saw the beginnings of the invasion of Texas proper, with Cascadia successfully reaching the gates of Houston on July 6. A chain of towns which had begun to be set up shortly before the war would culminate in the establishment of Texas (town), and the Pilbaran siege town of Weezer2 outside Houston and Port Lavaca. These towns were originally designed to be the beginning of the larger Operation Alamo counteroffensive, but would instead be the only OFN towns in Texas proper until the Cascadian Summer Offensive. Until then, Cascadian efforts on the Western Front would be focused on securing unclaimed areas in Cascadian territory through homestead grants.
The Texas Eastern Offensive
On the Eastern Front, Samisol saw much greater success with poaching, hunting, and placing towns. The initial Cascadian plan for the Eastern Front was for Vermont to provide general assistance, mostly through funds and gear, to the war effort, before eventually mobilizing their large population to lead their own invasion of the Texas homeland from the east. Cascadian officials were not aware at that time that Vermont was relatively poor, and their citizens unprepared for any kind of conflict. Texas launched the Eastern Offensive around the beginning of July, creating a chain of towns approaching the Vermont Metro. Alongside this, Texas had already begun a large-spread campaign of hunting and threatening Vermont mayors (especially those in the American South). By July 3, Vermont Assemblyman LyoshaFury pushed the government into the first of many rounds of negotiations with Texas leadership. The threat of hunting and overclaim was already considered too much by many Vermonters, and anti-war sentiments had begun to worsen across the nation. These sentiments were only worsened by the opinions of Vermont's pacifist founder Princeling. During the first round of negotiations, Texas demanded Vermont's unconditional surrender, aiming to take them out of the war quickly and focus on Cascadia. Vermont refused this offer, insisting on a negotiated peace that returned towns Texas had poached from them in the American South. The first round of negotiations went no further. Princeling insisted that the Vermont government should assist Cascadia without actually being at war itself, viewing the compromise as a way to both support its allies while also keeping Vermont out of harm's way from a war many felt wasn't their's to fight. Others, notably Vice President PurplePunch, wanted to accept Texas' offers for peace and become allies. President SergioTheCrafter, themselves a former Cascadian president, continued their support for the war. In the evening of July 3, the Vermont General Assembly voted to overturn the president's declaration of war. Texas declined to accept this withdraw, saying their war with Vermont would not conclude until a treaty was agreed to.
On July 4, Samisol used a loophole in the rules and Vermont's nation spawnpoint to have their name removed under Rule 2.1 (Nation named after inappropriate location). Evidently, the Vermont nation spawn was not in the U.S. state of Vermont, despite most of the capital town being in Vermont. With Vermont's name removed, Samisol created the nation of Vermont himself, declaring it to be the true Vermont, and joining Texas as a state. Shortly after this move, Texas proposed a treaty with Vermont which would have all of southern Vermont annexed into Texas, with Vermont itself contained into New England and Canada. Texas also demanded 1.2k in gold from Vermont to make up for Texas' expenditures in their Eastern Offensive. Both Sergio and Prince rejected this deal, despite LyoshaFury's increasingly desperate cries for peace. LyoshaFury would also claim in OFN channels that Vermont had no part in the war, and that Cascadia had "done nothing." This was quickly rebutted by Cascadian leadership, who stated they had already begun placing towns in Texas and were actively trying to help Vermont get its nation name back. When asked what they could do to help Vermont more, Princeling requested gold, and on July 9 the Cascadian Legislature issued a loan of 750g to be given to Vermont so long as they remained in the war. Vermont never accepted the gold due to their ongoing peace negotiations. On July 5, with anti-war sentiments mounting, the General Assembly voted to impeach Sergio, making PurplePunch president. With Sergio gone, Vermont entered into a 3rd round of peace negotiations. Texas demanded good relations with Vermont, that Vermont explicitly say they had surrendered, and the border agreement and gold payment from the previous round of negotiations. These terms were seemingly agreed to at first by President PurplePunch, though less supported by Princeling and others. Samisol then added that they could not "let Cascadia fuck this up" and that "The town of Weezer2 needs to be kicked from the nation tonight or the price of surrender goes up." Weezer2 was still in Cascadia at this time. On July 6, Vermont's nation name was returned to them by EMC mods and PurplePunch proposed a bill to surrender to Texas and agree to terms. The bill failed, likely due to lobbying from Princeling and others.
Outside peace negotiations, Texas continued its offensive into Vermont territory by capturing more towns, notably the anti-war town of Philadelphia. By July 17, nearly all of the American South was predominantly under Texan control, with Vermont pushed back to New England. On July 14, Princeling (who by this time was considered by many to be the de-facto leader of Vermont) published an OP-ED regarding the war to TBI, which he used to justify Vermont's actions in the war thus far, including the anti-war sentiments in Vermont, his feelings regarding Texan aggression, and his thoughts on Vermont's new alliances with the NSR. Notably, the OP-ED criticized Cascadia and directly referred to them as a bad ally, going so far as to suggest that the war was entirely Cascadia's fault and that Vermont was beholden to their treaty agreements with Cascadia. On July 22, Vermont agreed to a ceasefire with Texas, with both sides promising not to place more siege towns, many towns poached from Vermont being given permanently to Texas, and Vermont paying 200g. Neither of these developments were taken lightly by Cascadia and other OFN allies, notably Laurentia and Havaiki (the latter of which still recalled Vermont's actions during the Zealandia Civil War). Vermont's actions leading up to this point even led Laurentian founder and former Cascadian President TylenolEC to post a vote to expel Vermont from the OFN on July 14. According to Tylenol and MasterEWild, Vermont had not only been attempting to escape OFN obligations, but also their treaty obligations with their former nation of Laurentia. The vote would fail as most OFN members agreed it was better to keep working with Vermont even as they tried to leave the war. After the July 22 ceasefire, activity on the Eastern Front would mostly slow to a halt by late July, though sporadic Texan hunting against Vermonters would continue to keep Vermont engaged until the end of the war.
The 7/23 Nuking
On July 21, 2024, Raptor's term as President of Cascadia came to a close, and Lovelyfurball succeeded him. Furball had been Raptor's preferred choice, due to his involvement in the war up to that point, his recruiting skills, and his experience fighting wars in the Middle East as King of Israel. Around 10:05 PM PT (12:05 AM CT; 1:05 AM EST) on July 22, Furball was attempting to add the "cesspool" role to Samisol shortly before going to bed. By accident, he instead gave Samisol the "admin" role, giving Samisol complete access to the Cascadian discord. Samisol then alerted a GC of high-ranking Texans and allied leaders. A plan of action was quickly formulated in-call: first, channels deemed 'noteworthy' would be downloaded via Samisol's modified discord client and packaged into a .rar file for later review. Samisol himself, alongside 8set using an alt account named 'jp.f' (whom did the majority of deletion), would complete the nuking. Nearly 300 Cascadians were banned or kicked, almost all roles were deleted, and all but 2 channels were deleted. To the amazement of Cascadian officials, these were the passed-laws and passed-resolution channels, the only channels needed to keep the institutions of the nation intact. The total 'active time' in the nuke was around 30min, and Cascadian response was delayed due to it being extremely early in the morning. Among the final changes was the name and icon of the server changed to "Total Texan Victory". As Cascadian leadership scrambled to figure out what had happened, Furball was removed from many government channels for fear of him being a Texan spy, and the government began to discuss how to reassure confidence amongst Cascadians after the nuking of the Discord. Arcadian and experienced Discord admin Dracnoian was given admin powers in the immediate aftermath of this incident, in order to help rebuild the discord from scratch. By morning on July 23, most channels and roles had been restored.
The personal security threat of the Texan nuking was also deemed extreme by many. Texas at this time was associated with players who had been accused of (and in some cases, banned for) doxxing, most notably Bonzzil. Cascadian leaders were advised to change passwords on their accounts and check their personal internet footprints for leaks. The fact that Furball, who up to this point was still a major suspect in the nuking, had access to the casual GC with personal information of Cascadian leadership was also concerning. Rocksthunder, in an attempt to protect his personal information from being doxxed, would leave the GC and swear further fealty to Texas. At 11:03 PM PT, July 22, the cabinet declared Furball (who was asleep by that time) inable to exercise his powers as president, making Vice President Setrus Acting President. Furball, embarrassed by the incident and recognizing it would be difficult to recover from, officially resigned from the presidency at 10:41 AM PT on July 23. Texas would declare victory over Cascadia at 11:15 PM PT (1:15 AM CT; 2:15 AM EST), July 22, citing the nuking of the Cascadian discord and the capture of most of California. Cascadia immediately rejected the declaration of victory that same day, with Milgorn stating that "Cascadia firmly rejects the declaration of victory by Texas. The Texan bastards will pay for their action. We will never surrender, even if it is us against the world." An additional Cascadian response would be issued on July 26, making note of recent Texan bans (including some for doxxing), and promising the continue the war.
The nuking drew widespread reactions from across the international community. Nunavik, who effectively succeeded Laurentia around July 17, condemned Texas and demanded that they return the download of the Cascadian discord to Cascadia. Pilbara, whose involvement was limited to the placement of Weezer2, effectively withdrew their active involvement from the conflict due to Vermont's ceasefire and the nuking. In the aftermath of the 7/23 Nuking, the war would enter into a period of relative inactivity. Many in Texas believed that the war was effectively over, and that they had won it. Samisol's activity would begin to dwindle after the nuking, until he eventually quit and never returned in early August. The wartime presidencies of Rocky and Lukedcool (the latter of whom presided over the nuking) would fade into the activity and economic-focused presidency of JoeJoe77. For Cascadia, the 7/23 Nuking was a major milestone in both the war and the nation's history. It is considered by many to have been the most significant attack against Cascadia in the nation's history. It wouldn't be until several weeks later that Cascadia began to operate normally again, and counteroffensives returned as an option. Despite the loss of nearly 2 years of national history in the nuking, the event would eventually become a symbol of Cascadian resilience, often compared to the Battle of Oceanside. The 7/23 Nuking is also considered to have been the turning point of the war. As Raptor would say of the attack, quoting Winston Churchil like a total chud, "The darkest hour is just before dawn."

The Fall of Texas
Throughout the Summer of 2024, many significant Texan figures and close friends of North_Paso were banned including LivingHumanBeing, BonZZil, and TheAmazingMoe. Ghostyuu, then leader of the nation USA, was responsible for these bans and notably utilized knowledge of doxx lists and other illegal behavior for the bans.
In early September 2024, a Discord call occurred between KARN4, 911saph, North_Paso, 2SCAVA (aka ChildMineWorker, CMW), and a player called 'Nephi' (who was affiliated with KARN4.) The call acted as a conference between the Mexican Empire and Texas with the goal of sorting out border conflicts and other disagreements. 2SCAVA secretly recorded the call and posted them to the EarthMC Discord forums as three videos.[1] Things quickly heated up between KARN4 and North_Paso, who was particularly frustrated about the failures of Texas forming the Rio Grande Empire, something that required parts of Northern Mexico, the Yucatan, and California. After 1 minute and 3 seconds into the third video, North_Paso stormed out of the call yelling, "Now I'm off my fucking rocker ... I gotta [5x] fucking leave I gotta- gotta fucking leave the VC so that I can fucking calm down. Lets talk again tomorrow, okay? I am fucking open to negotiations, I'm just a little upset, okay? I'll let you go and-see ya."[1] A little afterwards this call, KARN4 would end up stealing the entirety of the I WANT GOLD casino profits, over 50,000 gold, which North_Paso had access to however kountr (friend of Ghostyuu) technically owned.
By the end, North_Paso stepped down from his title as king and quit EarthMC, although he later returned in 2025, but did absolutely fucking nothing.
